Johnny G. Farias, candidate for District 9 Miami-Dade County Commissioner, welcomed the news that State Representative Kionne McGhee was joining the 2020 race to succeed outgoing Commissioner Dennis Moss.

I want to welcome Rep. Kionne McGhee to the District 9 County Commissioner race. He joins a diverse and talented group of announced candidates that includes myself, attorney Marlon Hill, and Pastor Mark Coats.

That’s good. The people of South Dade deserve a competitive race to decide what is a very important position at a crucial time. For far too long, our part of the county has been forgotten. People are looking for leaders who will bring new energy and ideas and not just the blanket support of those already in office. They want people in office who are going to deliver on what the community wants and needs. That includes well-paying jobs, affordable housing, quality public schools and improved roads and rapid public transportation – including rail.

I look forward to engaging my colleagues on the issues and earning the vote of all the people and not just political insiders.
